EGF Spring Skating and Skills
Weekly Breakdown of Sessions
Day 1: Skating and Puck Handling
This training focuses on building a strong foundation of skating fundamentals through detailed edge work and efficient stride mechanics. Players learn to generate power with the least amount of resistance by honing proper stride length, clean recovery, and optimal body alignment. Emphasis is placed on maintaining correct ankle flexion and shin angle, allowing skaters to stay balanced, explosive, and connected to the ice.
Puck skills are developed through high‑repetition drills designed to build confidence and precision. Players are challenged to handle the puck while simultaneously engaging their edges and moving at game speed. This forces the brain, hands, and feet to work together, strengthening coordination and decision‑making under dynamic conditions. The result is a more fluid, efficient, and adaptable player who can execute skills instinctively.
Day 2: Shooting and Individual Skills
During these sessions players will work on shooting and puck‑handling skills through a detailed, technique‑driven approach. We focus on proper shooting mechanics—hand placement, puck positioning, weight transfer, and shooting in stride—to help athletes generate power and accuracy in game‑speed situations. Players learn how to release the puck quickly from optimal locations on the blade, maintain balance while moving, and shoot effectively under pressure. Training also includes advanced skill work such as precision passing, wall picks, and navigating puck placement through traffic, ensuring athletes can create space, make smart decisions, and execute plays in tight, competitive environments. Our goal is to build confident, dynamic players who can impact the game every shift.
